Join Jojo Wang and Riri Tamura, both San Diego-based lettering artists, for a workshop on lettering principles at Strenger Studio! This workshop is designed for individuals interested in learning the art of lettering. We will start the class by learning basic lettering principles and utilize Posca pens to learn 2 different lettering styles: sans serif and script. By the end of the workshop, you will have the chance to personalize your own journal cover, applying the techniques learned throughout the session. Encanto, San Diego's vibrant Black Arts & Culture District, is set to come alive on Saturday, February 18 from Noon to 4:45 p.m. with the inaugural Daygo Eatz event. Organized by The Mental Bar, Black San Diego, and Pillars of the Community, Daygo Eatz promises to be a dynamic celebration of community, resilience, and local talent. Daygo Eatz will transform nine blocks, spanning one mile of Encanto's streets and spill into the adjacent Marie Widman Memorial Park. The event aims to revitalize the spirit of the community and honor its rich cultural heritage while providing a platform for local businesses and artists to showcase their products and talents. The event will feature a dynamic mix of activities including a street fair with pop ups from local vendors, an art walk, and live entertainment. Many people find Modern Calligraphy attractive to learn because it allows them to create beautiful, fun, and hand-crafted letters that are unique and personal. Under the name Empress Of, Honduran-American songwriter, musician and producer Lorely Rodriguez creates introspective, self-empowering pop music centered around her impressive, acrobatic vocals. For Your Consideration, a follow-up to 2020’s I’m Your Empress Of and 2022’s Save Me EP, is a bi-lingual album that embraces camp and fantasy playing with the idea of Hollywood. The songs, which veer between English and Spanish, reflect on the transactional nature of love and sex, which is mirrored by the ephemeral sense of existence in the entertainment industry. Empress Of has collaborated with Top 40 pop artists and cultural icons such as Khalid, Blood Orange, Lewis OfMan, DJ legend Boyz Noise, ShyGirl and Salute.
