About the event: San Diego New Music and the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library present Labyrinth, a music and dance performance co-created by Kristopher and Dina Apple. Labyrinths have been used throughout history as devices for meditation, metaphors for storytelling, and as a bridge between the physical and metaphysical. Taking inspiration from these mythologies and practices, a cross-disciplinary ensemble weaves sound, movement, and text into a contemplative listening experience—a listening labyrinth. You are invited to the listening labyrinth—to follow the thread of now, gather your senses at each passing moment, and reflect on the potential for transformation. About the performers: Kristopher and Dina are music and dance makers from San Diego, California, whose work explores cross-disciplinary ensemble practices and performance-making that is often improvised and interactive. Kristopher is a violinist and composer working at the intersection of music, dance, text, and digital media. He teaches digital audio at the University of San Diego, accompanies dance classes at UC San Diego, MiraCosta College, and Palomar College, and has recently been a featured composer and performer with LITVAKdance, IMAGOmoves, and San Diego Dance Theater. Dina is a dance maker whose work investigates cross-disciplinary collaboration, practices of social choreography, and dance as a responsive and investigative act. She holds an MFA from UC San Diego and a BFA from San Diego State University and attended the Ricean School of Dance. Seabreeze Craft Chocolates hosts a free kids chocolate making class the first Sunday of every month. The 90 minute classes begin at 12 p.m. and are designed for children aged 5 and above. The engaging experience combines fun and education, offering kids the chance to explore the world of chocolate making. Kids will get to tap into their inner Willy Wonka and create their own chocolate bar while learning the art of chocolate decoration and design. St. Rita’s School To Unveil Transformative "Art, Play, Pray" Project on January 18 School’s New Resources Now Include An Art Studio, Athletic Field, Basketball Court, Playground, and Prayer Grotto to Further Enrich Southeast San Diego Students’ Lives San Diego, CA – January 8, 2024 – Through the generous support of a few very dedicated patrons, the Grand Opening of St. Rita’s School “Art, Play, Pray” initiative on Thursday, January 18 at 10 am will showcase the varied and robust new resources now available for its students. The ceremony will feature Cardinal Robert W. McElroy, Bishop of Diocese of San Diego, patrons, teachers, staff, parents, students, and guests. The project has metamorphosed the once mundane asphalt parking lot and play space into a multifaceted haven featuring an art studio, athletic field, basketball court, playground, and prayer grotto.This development marks a significant shift in the educational landscape for the students of St. Rita’s School which aims to educate the whole child by offering spaces that foster creativity, self-expression, wholesome physical activities, and reflective prayer. This project stands as a beacon of positivity and transformation within this community.
