Pennies from heaven...or maybe a little wink from the Universe when they show up on our path. This new series of artwork by Denise Cerro is created with lucky pennies in mind and will be on exhibit for two weeks in the F1VEart Gallery in the Arts District Liberty Station. This exhibit will feature a series of collaged and mixed media paintings inspired by the idea of pennies from heaven, with a few flowers scattered in. There’s no better time to create your own one-of-a-kind fuzzy monster! In this workshop, we guide you from start to finish as you select, cut, hot glue and assemble the pieces and personality of your own customized puppet. No sewing is required in this workshop. California's three largest utilities received approval to collect $27 billion from ratepayers after utility equipment sparked tragic wildfires. The soaring price of electricity has ignited debate about how much California families should bear for the cost of wildfire prevention, whether utilities are balancing risk and affordability and whether the money is being spent wisely.

In this workshop, students will learn about the origins of Kintsugi, the Japanese ‘art of golden repair,’ and its meaning as it relates to one’s own life. Instructor Luis Santiago explains, “In these uncertain and crazy times, I believe people can find some solace and comfort in realizing that their so called “scars” and imperfections are things that do not need to be hidden or ashamed of.” While the traditional craft of Kintsugi can take multiple months to complete, mastery in application, and involves toxic lacquer, the techniques used in this workshop to repair two ceramic pieces and embellish these pieces in two distinct Kintsugi-inspired ways brings it to a much wider audience and allows for completion in one workshop. All materials are included. Students will learn two distinct ways of highlighting the breaks of their provided ceramic pieces and will take home a unique piece.
