  • Songwriter Sanctuary can't think of a better way to celebrate Women's History Month than by getting a few of San Diego's beloved Baby Bushkas together. (For those who are unfamiliar with the internationally acclaimed Kate Bush tribute project that is/was Baby Bushka, go forth and familiarize...we'll wait). With that project currently on a potentially permanent hiatus, we thought it'd be cool to invite Marie Haddad (Midnight Bush), Nancy Ross (Fancy Bush), and Heather Nation (Sugar Bush) to come share their original work with the Songwriter Sanctuary community. For those wishing to practice a little community care, please come out a little early (5:30-6:30 p.m.) for our Pre-Show Pantry Jam to help fill the Normal Heights United community pantry, fridge, and closet with unopened/unexpired food or gently used clothing. Stick around to enjoy busking at dusk, provided on our unplugged “sidewalk stage” by Calamity! About the Artists Marie Haddad: A San Diego Music Award–winning singer-songwriter and composer, Haddad has shared stages with artists like Christine and the Queens and George Benson and has had her songs placed on popular television shows like Dance Moms, RuPaul’s Drag Race, and more. Whether solo at the piano, contributing arrangements to her colleagues' projects, or fronting a full band, she invites listeners to experience beautiful genre-bending soundscapes that transcend the formulaic limitations of traditional pop music. Nancy Ross: A musical theatre performer since childhood, Nancy Ross has built a vibrant creative career that has taken her to stages across the globe. Nancy regularly collaborates with top musicians and local venues to produce music and arts events that mix flavors of nostalgia and fantasy together to showcase her own wonderfully weird world of improv and performance art . Beyond her own musical projects, Nancy is also a dedicated teaching artist who directs youth productions and creates music and movement programs for young performers. Heather Nation: A jill-of-all-trades on vocals, guitar, bass, keys, and synth, Heather is a self-producing songwriter and seasoned session musician who tours with Lauren Mayberry of CHVRCHES and Death Valley Girls. Whether in her home studio or onstage layering shimmering guitars and soulful harmonies, she creates immersive, rhythm-rich performances that make a mark. Event Details Location: Normal Heights United Church. 4650 Mansfield St, San Diego, CA 92116. Suggested Donation: $10+ online or at door; optional “pass the hat” after intermission. No one is turned away for lack of funds. All Ages: We do not censor our artists; please check out the lineup and make the best decision for your family. Parking: Street parking. Food/Drink: Sponsored by Babe Beverages and Duck Foot Brewing Company. Guests are welcome to bring their own food into the venue (please eat and dispose of waste respectfully). There are so many delicious restaurants within walking distance - feel free to grab something take-out and bring it in!
