About the Film The Suraj Israni Center for Cinematic Arts will be screening "To The Stars" by Department of Visual Arts Associate Professor Nicole Miller. "To the Stars" is an immersive exploration of identity, voice, pain, and possibility. The film, originally commissioned by SFMOMA in 2019, examines the transformative capacities of practice, rehearsal, and collaboration through scenes with prominent figures of color including Alonzo King's LINES ballet, NASA astronaut Yvonne Cagle, opera singer J'Nai Bridges, and others. Biography Nicole Miller is an associate professor in the Department of Visual Arts at UC San Diego. Miller is a conceptual artist known for her inventive uses of video, often incorporating documentary-style methods into evocative mixed-media installations that deal with self-representation and the experience of looking. Location The Mosaic 113 Auditorium is located in the Suraj Israni Center for Cinematic Arts at UC San Diego (Mosaic Building). Better Business Bureau Serving the Pacific Southwest (BBB), in partnership with Empower by GoDaddy (NYSE: GDDY), is hosting the Veterans and Military Summit on November 3 to support successful transitions of military to civilian careers. Educational sessions will be led by veteran champions, parents of active service members and military spouses who will share their knowledge, connections, and resources to aid in the entrepreneurial journey. The speaker lineup includes Paula Pedene from Honoring America’s Veterans who will share how to foster winning outcomes and public relations strategies; and Stacey Gordon, Veteran Advocate and Military Transition Coach, on creating a business vision and values. Additionally, Margaret Carson from C2C Consulting will speak on marketing and branding strategies; and Andre Whittinton, Opemia Consulting on his journey as a veteran-owned business owner. Attendees can join the summit virtually at no cost or in person at the BBB Phoenix or San Diego Campus for a fee of $10 and includes both breakfast, lunch and a challenge coin to commemorate the event. Bring what you’ve got; come ready to write, edit, and learn; and expect to leave feeling confident. Gabby and Jen share a similar motivation — we want *everyone* to have the tools they need to write an essay that will help them be a strong applicant to the college they aspire to attend. We know this can be a stressful time for students and their families, and we are here to help guide that challenging experience into a positive and creative one.
