Code Wiz Santatierra, SanDiego is planning an open house and celebration on Saturday, October 22, to start with a robot ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. The event will include fun family activities and an opportunity to tour the center and meet the Code Wiz team. Code Wiz Santatierra is owned and operated by two Navy Veterans, Davon Copeland and Richard Daos. The duo is determined to bring to life the foundations of the ever-expanding world of tech, coding and robotics to the community of San Diego, especially military families and other underserved populations. California Competes said there will be over two million unfillable jobs in Southern California in the tech industry alone. Richard and Davon have high hopes they can create pathways to enriching educational experiences and other pathways for our local youth to learn, prepare for careers in tech, and have fun while doing it. Saturday October 29, Barrio Star is partnering with PAWS4Thought Animal Rescue to host an animal adoption event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside at their patio. The always pup-friendly restaurant located between the communities of Banker’s Hill and Hillcrest, serves a modern menu of Mexican soul fool that weaves bold Latin flavors with clever Asian touches, using fresh, local, and organic ingredients. PAWS4Thought Animal Rescue is a Bonita-based nonprofit all-breed animal rescue organization whose primary goal is to pair these pets with loving foster homes until they are adopted into their permanent “fur-ever” homes. Together, the team at Barrio Star and PAWS4Thought Animal Rescue will host plenty of food, drinks, and adorable adoptable animals eager for new homes. From the organizers: WE Gallery is proud to introduce our inaugural exhibit, "Portraits from the Anthropocene Part I: Body, Energy, Space, Time." Body, Energy, Space and Time represent the fundamental aesthetics of dance. This exhibit explores the inextricable and conflicting relationship between the human body and the gravity of our footprint on the environment. We have entered into the “Anthropocene”—a new geologic era marked by the impact of human activity on the earth. Against the backdrop of an increasingly endangered planet, this exhibit questions what it means to be a practicing artist in this time of global existential crisis. Working in a variety of media from painting to performance to video, these works express the hope that art can raise the discussion around a more ecologically sustainable future. "Portraits from the Anthropocene Part I" is a project of WE Gallery presented in collaboration with San Diego Ballet and NTC Foundation, and will be exhibited in Mandell Weiss Gallery located in Dance Place. We will divert litter from the Sweetwater Watershed and keep it from traveling to the Pacific Ocean. Our staff will be set-up with a check-in table and supplies at Lamar County Park. Join us at 8am for a talk by our Education Team about our watersheds and recycling right, then grab supplies and help us clean up!
