Monique Santander is a Chilean American artist, who has resided in Solana Beach since 2015. Monique came to United States in 1979, pursuing her creative dream in New York City. Her abstract art is known internationally for her expression in color, form and movement. Monique has exhibited in Chile, Germany, Greece, Mexico, Canada and at various galleries in Miami Beach, New York City and the Hamptons. She paints intuitively but meticulously, layering layers of textures, colors and marks while following her feelings and connection to herself, to the colors and the canvas. She loves experimenting with different color combinations, new techniques and new ways to apply the color onto the canvas. This exhibition is representative of a fresh energy and excitement in the Solana Beach Design District, where Art Scene West Gallery is promoting local art creation and collaboration. Mount Hope Cemetery, established in 1869, is the final resting place for over 76,000 dearly departed, many of them notable residents of San Diego. Join us (in person or virtually) for our next “History Talks!” Lecture on Wednesday, October 12 at 7 pm. Our Historian Sandee Wilhoit and Visitor Services Coordinator Jamie Laird will share the history of San Diego’s Mount Hope Cemetery just in time for spooky season! Some of San Diego’s most notable citizens are interred at Mount Hope Cemetery including Ah Quin, known as the unofficial mayor of San Diego’s China Town, Horticulturist Kate Sessions, Nathan Harrison, the first African American homesteader in the San Diego area, Kate Morgan, whose ghost purportedly haunts the Hotel Del Coronado, and the “Father of San Diego” Alonzo Horton. History Talks! is a monthly lecture series presented by the Gaslamp Museum at the Davis-Horton House. Each month a local historian or specialist will delve into topics related to San Diego and the Davis-Horton House to bring a unique glimpse into the history of our city. Come hear history come alive!   • Wild Wonders will be hosting a VERY special fundraiser for the Cheetah Conservation Fund with a special presentation by its leader, Dr. Laurie Marker. The Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) is a renowned leader in the conservation of this magnificent animal throughout Africa. Dr. Laurie Marker of CCF and the Cheetahs from Wild Wonders will host a special presentation about the work CCF is doing in Namibia and Somaliland. Attendees also have the opportunity to explore the 5-acres of Wild Wonders and meet some of the 100+ animal ambassadors from all over the world that call Wild Wonders their forever home. A barbecue buffet will be available, along with gifts to purchase from CCF. The event is Friday, October 28, and tickets are $125/person. A small number of VIP tickets are available at $250/person.
