  • BFree presents Time for Women Artists (TWA)’s newest group show, “Turning Tides” this summer. The group will showcase their individual visions of what the theme means to them: ebb and flow, change, transition, the sea—and more. The works are in a range of sizes and media. The exhibition will present works by all 12 TWA group members, showcasing their individual visions of what “Turning Tides” means to them. As we head into a changed world, post-pandemic and with social and political shifts, these are expressions of hope during transition, of ways to move forward, of the force of the spirit and the resilience of nature. The works are in a range of media: from textiles to painting, ceramic and bronze sculpture to mixed media, and in many styles, from abstract to whimsical to realism. The group has been working and showing together for 6 years, and were recently featured at the Oceanside Museum of Art in an exhibition titled “Now.” Member artists also show individually, in galleries and museums on both coasts, and their work is held in corporate and private collections worldwide. WHEN | This exhibition is ongoing from August 19 to September 3, 2022. • Open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. LOCATION | BFree Studios • 7857 Girard Ave, La Jolla, CA 92037 SOCIALS | Follow BFree Studios on Facebook | Instagram

  • Max Roemer presents “Beggars of Bliss, Icons of Loss”, new sculptures, paintings and drawings that speak to the viewer as inner figures: archetypes, genies, angels, fools, and fairy tale figures. The sculptures are “Beggars of Bliss”, large raw figures brought to life from found shapes and tree waste, connecting the pieces to the environment from which they grow, and giving expression to the bare experience of both loss and bliss. The paintings and drawings are “Icons of Loss” that echo the sculptures. They combine figures and words, one-word messages and witticism, in a primitive, playful style. “My art is pure play”, says Roemer, “nothing less.” All sales and proceeds will benefit ArtReach, a nonprofit providing arts education to more than 6000 students at Title 1 schools in San Diego County. • Writing the Micro Memoir — Life in a Flash Within the fast-growing atmosphere of hybrid forms of literature and somewhere between the six-word memoir and the book-length memoir stands the Micro Memoir. Often called Flash Memoir, these tiny, beautiful stories aren’t life squeezed down to fit into few pages (or less), but a captured moment in a life that opens into deeper, meaningful insights into the human experience. In this workshop, we’ll read published examples of micro–memoirs — from those complete within a single sentence to those made up of a few hundred words — and try our hand at writing our own. Participants will leave the workshop with at least one micro–memoir, and seeds enough for a lifetime. Follow on social media! Facebook + Instagram
