Mount Hope Cemetery, established in 1869, is the final resting place for over 76,000 dearly departed, many of them notable residents of San Diego. Join us (in person or virtually) for our next “History Talks!” Lecture on Wednesday, October 12 at 7 pm. Our Historian Sandee Wilhoit and Visitor Services Coordinator Jamie Laird will share the history of San Diego’s Mount Hope Cemetery just in time for spooky season! Some of San Diego’s most notable citizens are interred at Mount Hope Cemetery including Ah Quin, known as the unofficial mayor of San Diego’s China Town, Horticulturist Kate Sessions, Nathan Harrison, the first African American homesteader in the San Diego area, Kate Morgan, whose ghost purportedly haunts the Hotel Del Coronado, and the “Father of San Diego” Alonzo Horton.
