  • We welcome the new year with the amazing, captivating work of Marianela de la Hoz! Opening Reception: Saturday, January 20th, 4 - 7pm Exhibit run time: January 20 - February 16, 2024 Gallery hours: By appointment only, contact (858) 336-6678 "All of us travel through a tiny world, with an existence that we perceive enormous, but in reality, it is so tiny that it is not even observed by others. And in that minimum dimensional space, events happen, which, due to their relatively small impact, are not noticed; with my painted images I try to make them seen and felt. The duality in my painting is always present, the eternal combination of good and bad in each and every one, the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde within ourselves. We are neither saints nor devils we are a combination of both and this condition makes us humans, imperfect and yet beautiful and incredible. The main goal of my tragicomic paintings is to reach people’s consciousness’s by provoking a critical thinking process, searching for their reactions as a total being- neither pure sensibility, nor pure reason. The magic of art is that what seems to be an individualistic vision of reality touches and reaches the observer, who in turn observes and interacts with what I paint. Painting for me is a necessity." - Marianela de la Hoz We hope you’ll join us in celebrating an exciting opening! For more information visit: sipartspace.com

  • “If a voice as rich, supple, and vibrant as Missy Andersen’s could come out of a bottle- not that it hasn’t been tried - every blues singer would be dripping deep soul.” –Dave Rubin, Author & Journalist. Missy Andersen and her accompanist/husband, Heine Andersen, love what they do. Keeping a heavy touring schedule, the tenacious twosome perform as a duo which showcases the couple’s individual and combined talents. In the absence of other instruments, listeners find a greater appreciation for Missy’s gospel-tinged vocals and Heine’s Blues & Americana inspired guitar work. A charismatic performer known for her expressive and earthy vocals, Missy Andersen received the coveted "Blues Music Award" nomination for Soul Blues Female Artist in 2015 and then again in 2016. Her sophomore album, "In the Moment," received rave reviews from both critics and fans and ended up on the Roots Music Report’s Top 50 Albums. Raised in Queens, NY, Missy grew up singing along to the blues, soul, and gospel music of her parents and grandparents. These influences are evident throughout her recordings and live performances. Originally from the country of Denmark, but steeped in American Roots music, Heine Andersen has toured extensively in both Europe and North America, playing some of the most prestigious stages and festivals throughout his career. Noted for his polyrhythmic acoustic style, Heine plays lead and rhythm as well as bass lines simultaneously. With eyes closed, a listener would swear there were at least three musicians present. Add in Missy’s expressive, deep soul vocal delivery plus humorous storytelling and it’s a perfect match of all things good. • Sparks Gallery is pleased to show new work by bi-coastal artist Monty Montgomery in his solo exhibition, “Intersection”. Profoundly affected by his upbringing in the rural woods of Virginia’s countryside, Monty Montgomery’s work has always been informed by his visceral and emotional reactions to everyday experiences, such as exploring nature, or trekking city streets. His distinctive artistic voice was shaped in his teen years, when he began expressing his perception of the external world in bright geometric abstraction. His characteristic style emerged as a result of distilling sensory input through the lens of urban and natural landscapes. Using color theory, mathematics, and intuition, he attempts to harmonize the collision of these elements into something beautiful and cohesive. Montgomery uses his innate intuition for color and object relationships to connect with the viewer, sharing his artistic vision through a “visual-emotional language”, as he calls it. His interpretation of everyday scenes is often surprising, as the end results look vastly different than their real world counterparts. This unique perspective grants Montgomery both strength and vulnerability in his art practice. For more information visit: sparksgallery.com Stay Connected on Facebook / Instagram
