Belmont Park is hosting its 2nd Annual Community 5K on Sunday, September 22! Runners, walkers, and families are invited to secure their spots early for this fun-filled day of fitness and community spirit. This year’s event proudly supports Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, with proceeds benefiting Team Parker for Life, a local charity dedicated to supporting children and families affected by cancer. "Border Blasters, Desintegrador de Fronteras," is an interactive exhibition exploring the impact of Tijuana and San Diego radio, music and television on our cross-border culture. Guests will experience a magical evening of music under the stars as they bid farewell to 2023, celebrating with the talented pianist and San Diego's own Jungle Poppins. Both gifted artists credit autism as their catalyst to excellence and are geared up to “Rock the Spectrum.” Adin, an exceptional musician and advocate for Autism and Anti-Bullying, will open hearts with soulful melodies while Jungle Poppins vows to "let music upstage autism." In 2023, Adin wowed audiences on American Idol, advancing to Hollywood and earning accolades from industry icons Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and mentor Phillip Phillips. And in that minimum dimensional space, events happen, which, due to their relatively small impact, are not noticed; with my painted images I try to make them seen and felt. The duality in my painting is always present, the eternal combination of good and bad in each and every one, the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde within ourselves. We are neither saints nor devils we are a combination of both and this condition makes us humans, imperfect and yet beautiful and incredible. The main goal of my tragicomic paintings is to reach people’s consciousness’s by provoking a critical thinking process, searching for their reactions as a total being- neither pure sensibility, nor pure reason. In collaboration with Pacific Arts Movement (Pac Arts) and the San Diego Asian Film Festival, join us on Free Third Thursday, February 15 for a film screening of "Wisdom Gone Wild" by Rea Tajiri. "Wisdom Gone Wild" is a vibrant and tender cine-poem. Rea Tajiri collaborates with her Nisei mother as they confront the painful curious reality of wisdom ‘gone wild’ in the shadows of dementia. Made over 16 years, the film blends humor and sadness in an encounter between mother and daughter that blooms into an affectionate portrait of love, care, and a relationship transformed.  Refreshments will be available for purchase from The Kitchen.
