Sparks Gallery is pleased to show new work by bi-coastal artist Monty Montgomery in his solo exhibition, “Intersection”. Profoundly affected by his upbringing in the rural woods of Virginia’s countryside, Monty Montgomery’s work has always been informed by his visceral and emotional reactions to everyday experiences, such as exploring nature, or trekking city streets. His distinctive artistic voice was shaped in his teen years, when he began expressing his perception of the external world in bright geometric abstraction. His characteristic style emerged as a result of distilling sensory input through the lens of urban and natural landscapes. Using color theory, mathematics, and intuition, he attempts to harmonize the collision of these elements into something beautiful and cohesive. Montgomery uses his innate intuition for color and object relationships to connect with the viewer, sharing his artistic vision through a “visual-emotional language”, as he calls it. His interpretation of everyday scenes is often surprising, as the end results look vastly different than their real world counterparts. The annual Wildlife in Art Show, hosted by the Foothills Art Association in La mesa, is one of the longest running juried art shows is Southern California. This year makes the 34th consecutive year of this "wild" and inspiring show. The show is on exhibit from November 1, 2023 through December 6, 2023. It is free to attend and open to the public at historic Porter Hall, Foothills Art Association Gallery in La Mesa. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. An exciting reception will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2020 from 3:30 to 6:30 pm. In addition to the awards ceremony, the reception will feature refreshments and entertainment in keeping with the theme of the show. The reception is open to the public. Foothills Art Association is a nonprofit organization that promotes fine arts and offers educational and exhibition opportunities to artist in the San Diego community.

In celebration of Día de los Muertos, join us on the Museum Courtyard for an evening of art, music, and remembrance. Participants will create a personal ofrenda with a nicho box, inspired by the Museum’s Día de los Muertos altar designed by Macedonio Arteaga and dedicated to Frida Kahlo. Constructed of humble materials, nichos can be as colorful and varied as you make them! Bring your own photo of a loved one or small object of remembrance to incorporate into your nicho.
