2 Days in Paris

Julie Delpy serves up what could almost be described as a one-woman show with 2 Days in Paris (opening August 24 at Landmark's Hillcrest Cinemas ). For this contemporary romantic outing, Delpy serves as writer, director, composer, editor and star. The most surprising thing may be that the film ultimately doesn't come across like a vanity project.

2 Days in Paris is Julie Delpy's second attempt at wearing multiple hats. Her first writing-directing-acting gig was Looking for Jimmy, which never found a distributor. For her second film, Delpy has found a distributor and a fairly welcoming crowd at festivals and among critics. The story serves up a tried and true formula mixing romance, neuroses, culture clashes and the city of love.

My most embarassing dating moment was getting lost driving back from a Back to the Future marathon at the Lincoln Theater in 1990. I figured I had gone the wrong way early on so turned around, but it was so dark I still ended up going in an entirely new wrong direction. We ended up in Winnekta at one point and were even pulled over by a cop. I received directions back, but it took us more twice as long to get home as it should have. -----
