Tom Fudge: Wine is a big part of the agricultural economy of California. And it's becoming a big part of the lives of American people. Go to any large grocer in San Diego and you find a very large selection of wine. That doesn't mean we've become a nation of wine snobs. In fact, most people are probably looking for a decent bottle under $10.
But if you pay a bit more, do you get a bit more in terms of quality? And how do California wines compare to the many imported wines that are available all over town? Once you start asking questions about wine, the list can go on for a very long time. Well, we've got until the end of this hour with sommelier Courtney Cochran. She's founder of a company called "Your Personal Sommelier," and she's author of the book Hip Tastes: A Fresh Guide to Wine .
Courtney will have a wine tasting event tonight (Tues., Oct. 9) at 7 p.m. at Jonathan's of La Jolla. The $40 event includes a signed book, wine tastings, cheese and fruit. Please call the Warwick's Book Department for details on how to sign-up. Space is limited.
