Filner Signs on as Obama Super-Delegate

San Diego Congressman Bob Filner joined the last-minute rush of super-delegates who helped push Obama over the top in clinching the Democratic nomination for president. Filner is a so-called super-delegate who withheld his endorsement until Tuesday night. KPBS reporter Andrew Phelps spoke with Filner at Golden Hall on election night.

Filner : It’s clear to many of us in Congress that Sen. Obama represents a new generation, an inspirational voice, obviously a very historic candidate, the first African-American nominee for president. But I remember John Kennedy, when he won in 1960. Those of us who were students thought, hey, we didn’t know much about his politics, but it was a new day, a whole new excitement, a whole new inspiration, and I think that’s what Obama is going to provide for America today.

In February, voters in Filner’s 51st district picked Hillary Clinton to be the nominee.
