Gone Bananas: the Fragile Existence of the Worlds Favorite Fruit
Originally aired on January 16, 2008.
Tom Fudge : Bananas are one of those foods we take for granted and we don't really know that much about. In the typical supermarket, bananas are plentiful and cheap. Parents know that kids like them, and they go well with cornflakes. The banana, in fact, seems like a powerfully mundane subject, and not the kind of thing you'd write a book about. But Dan Koeppel did write a book about the banana with a rather dramatic title.
