Longtime San Diego radio personality Jerry Cesak announced Wednesday he is leaving the "Jeff & Jer Showgram" morning show, effective Oct. 14.

Cesak posted a letter to listeners on the website of radio station KYXY, in which he said the show would continue without him.

"I think life comes in chapters, and in my life, the radio chapter is over," Cesak wrote. "And that's it. It's just time."

He said he's "genuinely excited" for what's ahead in his life, but conceded that quitting after 45 years in radio "seems strange and it seems scary."

An advocate for animal protection, he said he plans to produce a show about the Humane Society and present it around the country.

Cesak and partner Jeff Detrow have performed on San Diego's morning airwaves for the past 27 years, along with producer Tommy Sablan, who became a celebrity in his own right.

Co-hosts Laura Cain and Emily Griffiths, and assistant producer Randy Hoag were added over time.
