Star Trek (opening May 8 throughout San Diego and in IMAX at Edwards Mira Mesa Cinemas) in IMAX is an absolutely amazing movie! This movie is somewhat complicated to describe without making it confusing and or sounding lame or boring. But believe me when I say that everyone who sees this movie will be amazed. I was never a Star Trek fan until I saw this movie. Seeing a little model plane in a shoebox never really appealed to me but this movie makes me see the story through all new eyes. Not only is this movie amazing but also to see it in IMAX is even better. Crystal clear images and awesome surround sound drag you in and make you feel as if you where there with the crew of the Enterprise. Not only is the picture and the sound totally cool but the screen is bigger than any other theater screen I have ever seen -- any bigger and you would have to go to the Ruben H. Fleet in Balboa Park.
Apparently this movie was so popular with the public the line to get in to the premiere was longer than the one for Watchmen and several other blockbuster must-see movies when they were first released to the public. Unfortunately people that had waited hours where turned away because there weren’t enough seats for everyone. So the theater was packed and excited and there were a few radio stations present to help get the audience pumped and ready for the film.
As an extra surprise one of the cast members from the movie – Faran Tahir -- had shown up to see it with the general public. What was cool was when he entered I had no idea who he played until the movie started; he was the very first person you see as the movie opens! I of course asked for his signature and unfortunately for him started a lengthy line of excited fans all wanting the same thing.
Other then the fact that the premiere itself was great, the movie rocked too. I loved the attitude that James T. Kirk had throughout the movie as the know-it-all, pain-in-the-butt guy who loves to piss Spock off. I also thought that the guy that played Spock – Zachary Quinto of Heroes -- did an amazing job. I thought that the casting agent did a great job selecting him. Another thing that totally rocked was all the CGI work. In some movies you can tell that a lot of work was done on a computer and is totally fake, but this movie was different. I mean you know it was done on a computer because there is just no way they could actually fly into outer space to make this movie but they did such a great job that you feel as if it were real. This movie was about love, friendship, discovering one’s self, time travel, revenge and so much more that I can’t even begin to try to describe all that was happening and be able to come close to make it sound as awesome as it actually was.
I feel that everyone should see Star Trek and I definitely encourage you to see it in IMAX. If you aren’t a Star Trek fan I guarantee you will be when this movie is over. Most movies have dull spots and the audience loses interest but this movie keeps the audiences on its toes waiting to see what is going to happen next. I hope that they make another movie and hope that it is as good as this one. I want to know what is going to happen next in the new captain James T. Kirk's adventure.
