The Whaley House
It's called one of the most haunted houses in America, and this Halloween, the Whaley House in Old Town will be open until midnight. Visitors brave enough to venture inside will hear about San Diego's favorite ghosts - and if they're lucky, they just might see one.

I still don't know what I'm going to be for Halloween. LAME, I know. I decided this morning it was time get it together and come up with a clever costume for a party tomorrow night (come to the Ruby Room).

The first place to go for inspiration was my own blog, since San Diegans have been sending me photos of their favorite Halloween costumes for weeks now (and they're so good!)

But first, just to get you in the mood, KPBS intern Nicole Corpuz went to the haunted Whaley House in Old Town last weekend and brought back this short audio postcard from the midnight tour. Play it while you look at costumes to set the mood.

And now for a recap of Culture Lust's Halloween coverage (with some new photos submitted in the last few days!). Also, at the end of this post is a frighteningly special treat: KPBS film critic Beth Accomando as a zombie momma. Honestly, she's pretty damn scary.

I loved the Ziggy Stardust and Michael Vick dog walker costume in this post.

Pets were the theme in this post, both as costume accessories and trick-or-treaters.

Lots of super cute kids costumes in this one, and this family makes all their extraordinarily cool and thrifted costumes.

I like the literary and pop culture references in this set of San Diego costumes.

We also did a whole hour-long show on These Days with KPBS film critic Beth Accomando, producer Andy Trimlett, and Reader columnist, Barbarella Fokos. They came up with great costume and decorating ideas. Podcast it while you head to Flashbacks, Gypsy Treasure, or your local thrift stores to find your costume.

I also really like this list of clever costumes. And this list of last minute bookworm costumes.

Here are a few more costume photos that trickled in over the last few days.

This is adorable! Joe Stagg in his favorite costume, as an astronaut. He says: "It was the height of the Space Race,™ and my mom made the helmet out of a Baskin-Robbins tub, then sprayed it (and my sneakers) silver. You can tell by the date stamp that I didn’t just wear it on that one special night."
