Talk about "Rolling in the Deep"! Missouri Air National Guard Tech Sgt. Angie Johnson, who gained international fame when video of her singing to troops in Afghanistan went viral, has signed a recording contract with Sony Music Nashville.
Johnson announced the news in an email she sent out to fans. She explained why getting signed to a big record label was so important to her:
Now I get to hire the A-List studio musicians to play, record in the most state-of-the-art studios in Nashville and package more copies of CDs for fans to buy at shows!!! Not only that, with Sony in my corner now, I will be able to mass market my EP and have a better shot at getting radio airplay. I'm so excited and happy! This has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. And it all started with a YouTube video :)
Johnson's incredible journey to fame began during her deployment overseas in the summer of 2011. Johnson, a member of the military band Sidewinder, belted out the Adele hit "Rolling in the Deep" during one of the group's performances for the troops. A video of the performance made its way onto YouTube, where it has been viewed more than 3 million times.
Johnson has since appeared on television shows like The Voice, Entertainment Tonight, and Ellen.
The video that started it all is posted up top. Congratulations, Angie!
