Two more deaths in San Diego county have been linked with the H1N1 virus. That brings the number of local swine flu deaths to three.
A 75-year-old man and 49-year-old woman have died over the past week with the swine flu. San Diego county health officer Wilma Wooten says both of them had serious underlying medical conditions. But she wouldn't comment on what those conditions were. Health experts say the latter part of the June would be very late for a person to come down with seasonal influenza. Wooten says the swine flu is different because it's a novel virus in a pandemic state. At this point, she says she's not expecting the H1N1 virus to take a summer vacation.
"We are effectively planning for the virus continuing for the summer and into the fall," says Wooten.
All of the people who have died with swine flu in San Diego had underlying conditions. Wooten says the county's first swine flu death occurred in a young woman who suffered from obesity.
