The Bush administration has severely limited diplomacy options in the wake of the assassination of Pakistan's former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. It reached out to her when she returned to Pakistan in October after eight years of exile but no one else. Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf is unpopular and he may have to postpone elections set for Jan. 8. Pakistan is an important ally to the U.S. war on terror.
