Zimbabwe's opposition party has pointed to a shipment of arms from China, destined for Zimbabwe, as further proof that President Robert Mugabe's government has put the country on the path to war. Powerful South African unions protested over the shipment, and dockworkers refused to unload the cargo.
Meanwhile, opposition and human rights campaigners have accused the authorities in Zimbabwe of sanctioning state-sponsored brutality since last month's disputed elections.
