It was on this day in 1963, on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial where Martin Luther King Jr. made his iconic, "I Have A Dream" speech.
It was a seminal moment in this country's history.
Hundreds of thousands of people took part in the March on Washington, forcing a spotlight on the challenges African Americans faced for civil rights. That struggle also played out here in San Diego, where, at the time, school and neighborhoods were segregated and not a single hotel allowed blacks earning the city the label "Mississippi of the West."
