We begin a series of interviews with San Diego Mayoral candidates.

The special election on Nov. 19 is set to choose a successor to serve out the term of former Mayor Bob Filner.

There are 11 candidates who have qualified for the ballot. A recent 10News/Survey USA poll found the top four candidates to be, in alphabetical order, Mike Aguirre, David Alvarez, Kevin Faulconer and Nathan Fletcher.

We will be speaking with each of those four candidates starting today with San Diego City Councilman David Alvarez.

Alvarez has been representing District 8 on the City Council since 2010.

The candidacy of this first-term councilman has been endorsed by a number of notable organizations including the Democratic Party of San Diego County and the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council.

You are part of something bigger. A neighborhood, a community, a county, a state, a country. All of these places are made stronger when we engage with each other in conversation and participate in local decision-making. But where and how to start? Introducing Public Matters.
