There are many different costs of war - both monetary and human. ABC News just published a report on the high fiscal costs of Operation Odyssey Dawn to the nation's piggy bank. The report by Devin Dwyer puts the expense of our military's involvement in Libya at hundreds of millions of dollars so far, and this is just in the last few days:
The Christian Science Monitor today, meanwhile, takes a closer look at the potential human costs of Operation Odyssey Dawn. CSM reports that Richard Fontaine, an analyst with the Center for a New American Security, told reporters today that the crash of two American fighter jets in Libya reminds us that all military operations have some level of danger associated with them. He said:
...Which I think is military-speak for how badly things could have gone if our pilots had become prisoners of war. This is solely my opinion, but it makes sense to me that President Obama took such a long time weighing the pros and cons of involvement, considering the great investment our country and our military are making for Operation Odyssey Dawn.
