The Department of Defense announced today that eight soldiers are being charged in connection with the shooting death of 19-year-old Pvt. Danny Chen in Afghanistan. The DoD reports Chen died October 3rd in Kandahar province of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to Fox News:
Indeed, the New York Times reported in October an Army official informed Chen's family that superior officers physically abused Chen before his death. Soldiers later found Chen in a guard tower with what was believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
The Stars and Stripes reports the eight soldiers (currently deployed in Afghanistan) facing charges are:
Five of the eight soldiers are accused of negligent homicide and involuntary manslaughter, according to the Stars and Stripes.
