The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces has agreed to hear the case of a Camp Pendleton Marine - former Sgt. Lawrence Hutchins III - who was convicted of murdering an Iraqi man in Hamdania, Iraq back in 2006.
According to the North County Times, the appeals court will hear two issues relating to Hutchins' case:
The first is whether Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus has illegally influenced the case through statements and other actions.
The second is whether the Naval Criminal Investigative Service violated Hutchins' constitutional rights when it interrogated him by refusing his request to let him speak to an attorney and by keeping him in solitary confinement for seven days before re-interrogating him.
