An MV- 22B Osprey attached to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing out of MCAS Miramar made a hard landing near Creech Air Force Base in Nevada on August 26, according to a 3rd MAW news release. While all crew members were able to escape safely, the subsequent fire on the Osprey made the aircraft unrepairable, and a total loss costing $2 million.

Stars and Stripes reports the Marine Corps classified the hard landing as a "Class A" mishap. A Class A label means the aircraft was damaged beyond repair in the incident.

The Marine Corps is investigating what caused the mishap, with the aid information gleaned from the Osprey's black box.
