Roughly 2,000 Marines from Camp Pendleton are training this week at Fort Hunter Liggett and Camp Roberts along California's central coast.

Marine Lt. Col. Stephen Mount told The Salinas Californian that 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit is spending two weeks training in the area because its terrain is unfamiliar to the Marines.

According to 11th MEU public affairs, the goal of the training is to create a chaotic environment similar to actual combat. As Cpl. Travis Richardson yelled to his squad in the midst of training operations:

“Do you think this is stressful? Imagine what it’s like to have guys firing back at you. It’s going to be stressful at all times so you can’t get flustered. You have to come at this like it’s your life on the line.”

The exercises at Fort Hunter Liggett and Camp Roberts started March 15 and will last until March 29.

Central coast television station KSBY-TV put together a video report on the training. Click here to watch.
