The budget for Australia's military - the Australian Defence Force - is expected to double over the next decade. That means Aussie military recruiters are looking overseas to fill military jobs like fast jet pilots, air combat officers, and electrical engineers, reports the Stars and Stripes.
National recruitment efforts just aren't filling up all the slots, according to ADF's Defence Jobs "Recruitment Centre" website:
"We are looking for serving or ex-serving foreign military personnel, who can directly transfer their job and life skills to whichever Service they join, with limited training and preparation."
United States Marine veteran Capt. Thomas Tilque began serving in the ADF last October. He explained why to Stars and Stripes:
“With the downturn in the U.S. military, maybe people are looking to stay in a military environment. This is an opportunity that is unique in the world.”
Many Camp Pendleton Marines will have a chance to get up close and personal with the ADF in the upcoming months. As Home Post reported earlier this week, Marines and sailors assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment departed Camp Pendleton on Tuesday for a six-month deployment to Australia, as part of Marine Rotational Force-Darwin.
