The trial of Camp Pendleton Marine Cpl. Kevin Coset, charged with killing 24-year-old Navy veteran and Army reservist Alvin Bulaoro, will begin Sep. 10, according to Camp Pendleton Patch.
The murder charges filed against Coset have special circumstances attached to them, making him eligible for the death penalty.
Bulaoro was last seen alive on Dec. 21, 2012. His family reported him missing shortly thereafter.
On Jan. 3, 2013, Bulaoro's remains were discovered inside his Toyota 4Runner, zipped into a sleeping bag, in the parking lot of an Albertsons supermarket in Fallbrook. According to autopsy reports. Bulaoro had been stabbed at least 44 times, and was also shot twice in the head.
Prosecutors say Coset kept a journal in which he admitted killing Bulaoro, according to the San Diego Reader. During Coset's preliminary hearing in March of 2013, Coset's alleged confession was read aloud by NCIS special agent Jason Keller:
“Tonight I had to kill for the third time... Murder is justice.”
According to prosecutors, Coset specifically named Bulaoro as his victim.
