U.S. Army Pfc. Matthew H. Walker, 20, was killed June 5, in Paktika province, Afghanistan. He died of wounds suffered when enemy fire attacked his unit, according to the Department of Defense.

Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginia is currently on lockdown, after a service member was stabbed outside the Navy exchange on the hospital's grounds. The Navy has identified the suspect as Petty Officer 3rd Class Wilbur Harwell.

General Joseph F. Dunford, Jr., commander of the International Security Assistance Force and United States Forces-Afghanistan, has been tapped to be the next Marine Corps commandant. Dunford was commanding officer of the Camp Pendleton-based I Marine Expeditionary Force from 2009-10.

The Hornet crashed while attempting to land on the Coronado-based aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, said U.S. Pacific Fleet officials.

A Marine spokesman said the jet was a Harrier from Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Arizona. The pilot safely ejected, and there were no immediate reports of injuries on the ground.
