Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginia is currently on lockdown, after a service member was stabbed outside the Navy exchange on the hospital's grounds.

WTKR-TV reports the Navy has identified the suspect as Petty Officer 3rd Class Wilbur Harwell.

The medical center's Facebook page describes Harwell this way:

...a white male, 165 pounds, blond hair, blue eyes, wearing tan cargo pants and a white shirt.

Navy spokesman Jim Moir told WAVY-TV...

The stabbing happened around 8:30 a.m. at Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads/Portsmouth Annex, which is in a separate building outside of the hospital.

Moir said the victim was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.
Portsmouth Police Detective Misty Holley explained to the Washington Post that while the suspect is still on the loose, police believe he is still on base:
A SWAT team is on the scene with uniformed officers, K-9 units and detectives searching for the attacker.

In a bizarre case of coincidence, the Naval Medical Center held an active shooter drill on the installation on Thursday.
