Regulators Ask SDG&E To Take Corrective Steps On Golden Eagle Nesting Zones

Regulators are asking San Diego Gas & Electric for more information in their probe of the company’s incursions into Golden Eagle nesting zones.

The California Public Utilities Commission is looking into how SDG&E helicopters entered protected eagle nesting areas three times in January and once this month while constructing the Sunrise Powerlink transmission line.

The company has said no eagles were injured in those incursions. Nonetheless, regulators want SDG&E to stop deleting helicopter flight data after 45 days.

The commission is also asking the power company to collect daily helicopter flight data near all golden eagle buffer zones dating back to mid December which is prime nesting season. SDG&E has to turn the information over to regulators by February 20th.
