The San Diego Association of Governments will begin nine days of construction work at 9 p.m. Friday to continue making upgrades to the Poinsettia commuter rail station.
Crews will work from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. July 13 to continue construction a pedestrian undercrossing by pouring concrete and installing columns to support the bridge's retaining walls. Work crews will also relocate the station's eastern rail track and expand its eastern platform.
During the work window, rail traffic through the station will be reduced to a single track, but trains may only be delayed up to 10 minutes, according to SANDAG. Up-to-date train schedules can be found at gonctd.com.
In addition to the construction of the undercrossing and the eastern track's relocation, the $33.7 million Poinsettia Station Improvements Project includes the installation of longer passenger platforms and new fencing between the station's tracks.
Once complete, the undercrossing will replace the station's existing at-grade rail crossings and include stairways and ramps that are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act on either side of the station's tracks.
The Poinsettia Station project is part of SANDAG's overarching Build NCC (North Coast Corridor) program, a 40-year, $700 million effort to repair and expand vehicle and rail transportation infrastructure throughout the county.
