Good Morning, I’m Annica Colbert….it’s Sunday, September 19th. >>>> Skrapez on the KPBS Summer Music Series That’s next, but first... let’s do some quick headlines…. ###### There was a moment of silence at military bases around San Diego on friday to honor the troops who died in the bombing in kabul, and in a recent helicopter training accident. Nine marines and a sailor from Camp Pendleton were among the 13 who died outside the airport in kabul. then 5 sailors died in a training accident on a helicopter from the USS lincoln. Just two years into his service, Jashua Holmes suggested a moment of silence at naval base San Diego for all of the dead friday. “this small gesture is going to go a very long way and i hope all of the families see that we remember the fallen victims. we remember each and every one of them. from the 13 in afghanistan to the five in san diego in the helo crash. we’re going to remember each and every one of them to the end of time.” The first marines from the unit sent to guard the airport in kabul arrived overnight at camp pendleton. The rest of the 2nd battalion 1st marines are expected to return in the coming days. ###### The Imperial Beach Pier reopened on Saturday after being closed for five days due to structural damage. It was closed when pier piling was reported seen floating in the water near the pier. Inspection and analysis has since determined that the pier remains safe for public use. ##### From November 26th through the 28th, Comic-Con Special Edition will be at the Convention Center in San Diego. Tickets are now on sale. This is the first time in two years that Comic-Con has been an in-person event. Miro Copic is the founder of bottom line marketing and a marketing lecturer at SDSU. He says comic con won’t be the only event happening that weekend. “And this is going to coincide with the opening of the comic con museum as well. So not only will there be amazing activities going on at the convention center for this special edition comic con. But the museum will be open and will continue to attract a lot of people from all over Southern California and out of state.” ######### From KPBS, you’re listening to San Diego News Now.
