  • Learn to Carve a Decorative Spoon! November 16 & 17, 9-11:30 a.m. In this 5-hour workshop, students will learn to carve a decorative spoon in basswood in the European carving tradition. Students will learn and apply the following skills that are needed to carve a simple decorative spoon: Carving safety; Honing/sharpening; Tracing and transfer of the spoon layout to a piece of basswood; Hollowing out the spoon; carving the back; and removing thickness under the handle; Carving out the handle; Sanding the spoon and handle; Finish can be applied at home (instructor can offer shellac, which is non-toxic). This class is designed for the beginner as well as more experienced carvers. Different techniques and styles make it interesting for all skill levels. There is no prerequisite for this class. All of the necessary tools and materials will be available to students for this class. It is recommended that you bring your own safety gear (eye protection, hearing protection, dust mask, gloves). We have hearing and eye protection available if you do not have your own. No experience necessary.   • North City is set to host a free outdoor movie night on Friday, October 25, featuring Disney’s "Coco"! The festivities begin at 5 p.m. with games, family activities, and movie character meet-and-greets, followed by the movie screening at 6:30 p.m. The event will feature a Mariachi Band, Dia de los Muertos decor with an ofrenda, a festive straw bale and pumpkin display, and special appearances by Coco’s beloved characters, Miguel and Héctor. Attendees will receive complimentary popcorn and can purchase an array of bites from North City’s eateries. Options include favorites like pizza from Buona Forchetta, sliders, fries, and other bites from Draft Republic, custom ice cream from award-winning Wynston’s Ice Cream, make-your-own cookie kits from Maya’s Cookies, and handheld bites from Milonga Empanadas.
