  • Learn to Warp & Weave! July 21 or September 28, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. (w/1 hr lunch break) Learn the ancient fiber craft of weaving your own fabric using a sustainably harvested wooden Rigid Heddle Loom and soft natural fibers. In his hands-on workshop, instructor Jeanine Ertl will teach you everything you need to know to warp and weave on your own. This class is perfect for anyone who’s been curious about weaving beyond a lap loom and wants to learn the warping and weaving processes. We’ll dive into fiber & fabric and demystify the process of getting set up (otherwise known as warping a loom), weaving, and finally, finishing and removing a woven fiber good from the loom! And, you’ll go home with handwoven fabric in-hand. Length of the final piece will depend on the individual’s own pace. In this workshop you’ll learn: * How a Rigid Heddle Loom works; * How to Plan a Textile (e.g. sett, basic pattern & choosing fiber, etc.) * How to Warp a Rigid Heddle; * How to Weave; * How to Remove your Woven; * And, How to Finish a freshly Handwoven Textile. All materials to warp & weave a sample included for use. No experience necessary. Ages 14+ welcome! OPTION: Students will weave on Ashford looms. Instructor will have a variety of Ashford looms (Sample It and Knitters Looms) present for purchase in class. Conversely, plants have also served as the basis of 70%-80% of beneficial pharmaceuticals. This tour highlights Balboa Park’s many examples of plants to treat with caution. Forever Balboa Park offers thematic park tours that focus on the park’s unique biodiversity and highlight the park’s horticultural wonders on the second Saturday of each month. Led by park volunteer and horticultural enthusiast Bill Edwards, the free tours leave from the Visitors Center at 10:00 a.m. unless otherwise indicated. Walks last 1.5 to 2 hours and are typically less than 1 mile on level terrain. It is advised that potential attendees contact the Balboa Park Visitors Center prior to the scheduled walk to determine if there are any last-minute changes or cancellations to the tours.
