  • Learn to wet felt a gorgeous flower!Saturday, May 10, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.Join this 3-hour workshop and learn the ancient art of wet felting — the process of loose wool becoming felt. This textile art technique has been used in the making of rugs, homes (yurts) and clothing for centuries. In this workshop, the instructor will guide you, step by step, through the making of a felted flower.Starting with a soft merino wool, you will be creating your own one-of-a-kind flower choosing from a wide selection of dyed wool. After using soap and water to bind the fibers, you will take home a forever flower that will embellish any space. Your flower can be used as a bookmark, tied around a curtain or the strap of a hand bag, placed in a vase or given as a sweet gift…. The possibilities are endless!No experience necessary.   • Tuesdays, May 6, 13, 20, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.Absolute Beginner Crochet: Getting Starting!In this crochet workshop, students will learn the fundamental skills of crochet, including starting a project, basic stitches like single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), chain (ch) magic circle, and tying off. This three-week course will allow students to learn and practice the basics in-studio, practice at home, and then return with their questions and learn more. No experience necessary.Students are welcome to bring their own yarn and/or hook, but it is not necessary. We will be using size 4 yarn and between 4.00mm and 6.00mm crochet hooks.   • In this class you will make a gorgeous, shaped belt bag perfect for your own adventures or gifting. The skills taught in this class include: how to sew darts; sewing a lined welt zip; bias binding; and bag hardware installation. This bag is highly customizable. You will go home with the pattern and ready to practice new bag making skills. An alternative to the webbing strap could be repurposing an old belt, or from a bag you no longer use. Thrift stores are full of interesting belts and hardware to harvest from bags! This class is appropriate for a sewer with knowledge of how to use a sewing machine and sewing basics. If you’re not sure if you’re ready for this class, email and ask any questions you might have beforehand. If you are new to sewing, please check out our beginner classes before enrolling.If you are bringing your own sewing machine, it is very important to make sure it is fully functional. Weaving techniques taught in this class include: twining, over-under interrupted, 3-Rod wale, braided rim, or lashed on rim.   • In collaboration with So Say We All, the Hausmann Quartet presents "Seven Last Words," a performance of Joseph Haydn’s epic masterpiece alongside spoken word presentations of original works by the authors themselves. The texts will be inspired by the same scripture upon which Haydn based each of the movements of his monumental work, The Seven Last Words of Christ.   • Learn to needle felt!Saturday, May 3, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.Learn to create simple sea pebbles from humble wool!Using wool, you will learn and practice needle felting techniques, feeling the cloud of fibers taking body and turning into a beautiful object. Each student will make an assortment of sea pebbles, in different tones, shapes and sizes. They make a lovely decoration, lucky stones, or tokens of friendship!In this class you will learn about wool, how to use different size needles, and felting safety (guards will be supplied for use), as we embark in the meditative process of felting, rounding edges, smoothing angles, and adding delicate veins to make your own personal trompe-l’oeil stones.No experience necessary.
