  • "The Dykes and Their Friends Between Revolutions" is Lambda Archives of San Diego's adaptation of the 1977 book title "The Faggots and Their Friends Between Revolutions" by Larry Mitchell. Mitchell's visionary work imagined queer liberation through allegorical storytelling, offering a radical vision of community, resistance, and survival during a time of intense political struggle for LGBTQ+ rights. By centering "Dykes" in the series title, we honor the specific histories, activism, and cultural contributions of lesbian and queer women in our region—communities whose stories have often been marginalized even within LGBTQ+ historical narratives. Like Mitchell's original work, our series explores the spaces "between revolutions"—those crucial moments of organizing, community-building, and resilience that sustain movements for justice across generations. This event series includes an exhibit featuring original archival material from our collection that showcases the history of LGBTQ+ lesbian organizing, arts, advocacy, and political struggles in the San Diego-Tijuana region. • It’s my great honor to welcome you to the 44th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival, proudly presented by the Irish Congress of Southern California. Each year, we gather in San Diego to celebrate the rich traditions and joyful spirit of Irish culture — and 2026 will be no exception. We’re excited to share this year’s theme: “Here, There, Irish Culture Everywhere!” This theme celebrates the global presence and timeless joy of Irish culture — from the green hills of Ireland to the sunny streets of Southern California and beyond. Whether you're Irish by blood or simply Irish at heart, you're invited to experience the music, dance, and stories that connect us all. I chose this theme with future generations in mind — especially my son, and all young people who will carry our traditions forward. By showing that Irish culture is thriving here, there, and everywhere, we remind the next generation that they are part of something enduring and beautiful — and that they have a role in keeping it alive. Join us for a vibrant parade filled with floats, dancers, bands, and dignitaries — followed by a family-friendly festival in Balboa Park with Irish food, live music, cultural exhibits, and kids’ activities. Let’s come together to honor our roots, make memories, and share the joy of Irish culture — here, there, and everywhere The parade will kick off at 10:30 a.m. at Fifth and Laurel, progress north to Upas St., then south to Sixth Avenue where the festival is located. The parade is free to attend and will have nearly 100 entries of Irish organizations, honorees, fire and police entries, horses, clowns, marching bands, and more. The family festival opens at 9:30 a.m. and will run all day until 6 pm. There will be two entertainment stages, food, beer and wine, a vendor area, and a kids zone with fun things to do all day. Friendly Sons of St. Patrick Main Festival Stage lineup: · 1 p.m. Tony Cummins · 2 p.m. Skelpin · 3 p.m. Ass Pocket Whiskey Fellas · 4 p.m. The Shamrockers · 5 p.m. The Fooks The Ashleigh Roach stage will feature Irish cultural entertainment including music and Irish dance from local schools. Tickets are a low $10 for 21 and up (drinking or not). Children, under 21, and active duty military with i.d. are free. Beer/wine tickets available for 21 and up only - must present i.d. to pick up. (no refunds) There will be a free shuttle running every 30 minutes from parking areas in Balboa Park to the parade and festival area.
