Author Clay Hoffman will speak on his book “Notable Companions of the Military Order of Foreign Wars,” which comprises profiles of historic American patriots. His talk will discuss a number of the patriots portrayed in the book who have served in the Civil War and other American wars, including Admiral George Dewey (Capture of New Orleans, Port Hudson); General Joseph C. Breckinridge Sr. (Shiloh, Atlanta Campaign); Admiral Stephen B. Luce (Siege of Charleston); and General Alexander S. Webb (Bull Run, Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg). Clay is a longtime member of the San Diego Civil War Round Table and has written dozens of articles on historical topics. We will also congratulate winners of the Dave Tooley Civil War Research Essay Contest.

Presented over four nights by TERI Players, this stage production invites audiences into a vivid re-imagining of Alice’s descent into Wonderland. The story centers on imaginative young Alice, portrayed by Reese Merrill, whose day-to-day life with her practical sister Lorina (played by Sierra McCarthy) and her eccentric Uncle Lewis Carroll (brought to life by Kyle Ingraham) takes a surreal turn. As Uncle Carroll reads from his fantastical manuscript, Alice drifts into a fevered dream and crosses the threshold into Wonderland. There she chases the frantic White Rabbit, portrayed by Cameron Morning, and encounters an assortment of eccentric denizens: the contemplative Caterpillar (played by Timothy Sangster), the sly Cheshire Cat (performed by Ambier Harvey), the unpredictable Mad Hatter (portrayed by Jake Bowers), and a troupe of dancing flowers. Alice’s surreal journey builds toward a climactic appearance before the volatile Queen of Hearts, embodied by Tessara McAfee, where nonsensical rules, rising stakes, and Wonderland’s signature chaos threaten to overwhelm her. Blending whimsy, eccentricity, and dream logic, this four-night event offers audiences an imaginative, immersive adventure through one of literature’s most iconic fantasy worlds. Frontwave Credit Union and the Frontwave Foundation will host Pawpalooza, a free community pet adoption festival, on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Frontwave Credit Union, 1278 Rocky Point Drive in Oceanside. The event will bring together local animal rescue organizations, food trucks, vendors, and pet lovers for a lively day focused on helping pets find loving forever homes. Designed as a family-friendly community event, Pawpalooza will feature adoptable dogs, cats, and rabbits, along with giveaways, games, a pet-themed mini market, and appearances by the mascots from the San Diego Sockers and San Diego Clippers. Guests will also be able to enjoy food and drinks from local food trucks throughout the event. To help encourage adoptions, Frontwave Credit Union will contribute $100 toward each adoption fee for families who adopt a pet during the event. “Pawpalooza is a wonderful way to bring the community together around a shared cause while helping deserving animals find safe, loving homes,” said Todd Kern, Chief Experience Officer. “We are proud to support the rescue organizations doing this important work every day and to create an event that is both meaningful and fun for local families.” Participating rescue partners include Labs and More Rescue, Tiny Kitten Coven, Furballs Furever Rescue, Amazing Strays Rescue, San Diego House Rabbit Society, Sunrise Rescue, Passion for Pitties Rescue, Homebound Hounds, and SPOT Saving Pets One at a Time. Pawpalooza also will highlight local businesses and community partners through its Pet Mini Market and vendor area. Get ready for a night of sharp stand-up and big laughs at Last Laugh Friday at The Bornemann, hosted by actor and comedian Mark Christopher Lawrence. This stacked lineup brings together nationally touring comics and rising talent for an evening of smart, high-energy comedy. Headlining the show is James P. Connolly, whose comedy has been featured on America’s Got Talent, Comedy Central, and HBO, and in the Netflix series "Larry Charles: Dangerous World of Comedy." A Harvard graduate and former Marine Corps officer who once wrote jokes for a Colonel during Desert Storm, Connolly delivers sharp, intelligent humor that has also earned him a place on the daily rotation of SiriusXM Comedy Channels. The feature set comes from Noah Copfer, a fast-rising comic who has released a stand-up special with Don’t Tell Comedy and produced a full-length hour special on YouTube. Touring across the country and opening for top comics, Copfer recently appeared alongside Larry David in the newest season of "Curb Your Enthusiasm." Opening the night is San Diego’s own Raaghav Thatte, known for his infectious energy, quick wit, and spot-on impressions. Since starting comedy at 18 while performing improv and stand-up at University of California, Santa Barbara, Thatte has become a standout voice on the Southern California comedy circuit.
