Ales N’ Rails is back for its 10th year! Join SDMRM for our annual beer-tasting fundraiser celebrating local breweries, live music, and community fun in the heart of Balboa Park. The event takes place Saturday, December 13, with trains running during regular museum hours (11 a.m. – 4 p.m.) and again after hours (6 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.) for a one-of-a-kind experience surrounded by San Diego’s railroading history. Wear your most festive (or hideous!) holiday sweater for a chance to win a prize, plus enjoy raffle drawings, food, and more throughout the night. This is a 21+ event. This year, we’re raising $10,000 to preserve our exhibits and support the model railroad clubs that bring our layouts to life. Santa’s Workshop on Wall Street (1008 Wall Street in front of the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library) provides hands-on arts and crafts, educational exhibits including robotics and coding demonstrations, and pre-parade visits with Santa. CPK is making its way to North County after previously serving the community for more than 30 years with its beloved Solana Beach location. The new Encinitas restaurant reflects the brand’s continued growth and investment in its home state. To celebrate, CPK is hosting a First Slice Ceremony and Ribbon Cutting on the first official opening day for business. Ideal for ages 8-12, students in this course will build essential sewing skills using both hand-sewing techniques and the sewing machine. Over six weeks, they’ll learn safety practices, stitching basics, machine navigation, and troubleshooting while growing confident in their technical abilities. As they explore idea development and practice foundational skills, students will create both functional and decorative pieces. The class wraps up with fun and functional final projects that showcase their creativity and growth.
