Former best friends and rival art critics reunite after decades apart, drawn together by a mysterious nine-page email and the impending death of one of them. As one flies to Berlin, he reflects on the enigmatic Renaissance painting "Saint Sebastian’s Abyss"—the work that launched their careers, destroyed their friendship, and now frames this darkly comic meditation on art, obsession, and belief.
