The season stretches eight to ten weeks each year with a full slate of activities including live music performances, workshops and wellness classes that harness the power of Mother Nature. “The color that The Flower Fields brings each spring extends far beyond our rows of rainbow ranunculus.” says Fred Clarke, general manager of The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch. “From the brightly painted wagons that bring visitors into the fields, to vendors serving eye-catching lemonade and ice-cream dipped in sprinkles to the blueberry picking, Sea of Sunflowers and various gardens, color truly abounds at every turn.” The 2024 activity calendar is brimming with programming such as the return of the lauded outdoor music series which features performances by Swingergy, The Derringers, Bill Magee, SoRockBlu, Bayou Brothers, Cool Rush and Michele Lundeen. Sunset Wine Tasting, Flower Crown Workshops and Tea in the Garden will return across multiple dates along with wellbeing classes including Meditation and Sound Healing and Flower Flow Yoga. The American Flag of Flowers, Tractor Wagon Rides, a Sweet Pea Maze, Santa’s Playground and the Carlsbad Mining Company will deliver on the nostalgic experiences that have brought guests back to The Flower Fields time and time again for over sixty years. Kline Swonger is a cross-disciplinary artist whose research and sculptural work revolves around perception and psychology of space. She imagines place as residing simultaneously in both physical and emotional landscapes, the moments experienced in-between offering new perspective and opportunity for discovery. Through her work she explores the relationship formed when the boundary between internal and external dissolves, and the consequence of separation or fragmentation. She formally integrates spatial boundaries, subtle shifts in light and details, and manipulated materials which engage the senses into her works. Through aesthetically quiet sculpture installations with the world through their senses, space for reflection is created. Viewers are invited to explore their own thresholds of perception, noticing their engagement with the world through their senses. The "Double-Double Queen" is living up to her name early in her pro career. The Chicago Sky forward earned her seventh consecutive double-double in a win over Dallas — a league record for a rookie.

This morning, Feeding San Diego is hosting a large-scale, free food distribution at Faith Chapel in Spring Valley open to 750 households to help support flood victims amidst the ongoing storms. Though wet weather is forecast, volunteers will be onsite to distribute ready-to-eat food and produce to anyone in need of food assistance to start the month, no registration required. This distribution was originally scheduled for Thursday, February 1 but was rescheduled. The distribution now coincides with the regularly scheduled Feeding San Diego produce pantry food distribution that takes place there on the first Monday of every month. “Emergency response is engrained in Feeding San Diego’s DNA. It’s how our organization got started back in 2007, by providing food to those displaced by the fires that year,” said Bob Kamensky, interim CEO of Feeding San Diego. “It’s of critical importance to our organization to step up and show up for our neighbors who continue to be impacted by these ongoing storms.
