Make Music Day is a free celebration of music around the world on June 21. Launched in 1982 in France as the "Fête de la Musique," it is now held on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries. The Museum of Making Music joins the celebration with a variety of fun, free activities, hands-on music-making, performances, and more! What can you expect on Make Music Day at the Museum of Making Music? 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.: Free Admission to the Museum. Enjoy free admission to the Museum of Making Music and be the first to see our latest spotlight exhibition "Roots & Wings: 40 Years of PRS Guitars" celebrating the artistry, innovation, and impact of PRS Guitars. 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.: Make and Play with Studio ACE. Our friends at Studio ACE will host make-and-play crafts for families. Create a music-themed art project that you can play! 11:15 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.: The Big Sing. A family-friendly singing celebration for all ages and all voices. This Disability Pride Month, join interdisciplinary artist duo Sensory Dimensions (Casey Hall-Landers & Elicia Neo) for the premiere of "My Body's Wake," a FREE multimedia experience at the City Heights Performance Annex. Through a visceral blend of body painting, live improvisational dance and violin, projection, and generative sound, "My Body's Wake" navigates the emotional terrains of grief, isolation, anger, and care - rooted in the artists' experience with chronic pain and dynamic disability. Sensory Dimensions depicts the experiences of disabled people with chronic illness and pain by immersing audiences in multi-sensory environments using a diverse range of artistic modalities to create accessible live art events. Founded by interdisciplinary dancer Casey Hall-Landers and multimedia violinist Elicia Neo through the Berklee NYC Masters program in Creative Media and Technology, the duo is fueled by a passion to create safe and welcoming spaces for all. Sensory Dimensions explores and recontextualizes pain through sensory and artistic pathways, using nature as a mirror to understand our bodies and integrating accessible design into their creative work. "Gretel: the Musical" - a folk rock dive into the fairy tale... Join us on Saturday, July 5 at the City Heights Performance Annex for a FREE performance of "Gretel: the Musical," presented by Riot Productions, Inc. Featuring indie folk rock music on cello, guitar and cajon by composer Jenn Hartman Luck, this retelling of the classic Russian folk tales around “Hansel and Gretel” focuses on the women and girls of the fairy tales. Gretel processes the grief at the death of her mother and the rejection of her stepfamily while on the hero’s journey, facing knights and witches, spells and curses, and through it all the question–how will she survive? Featuring: Priya Richards as Gretel, with BJ Robinson, vocals and cajon, Sarah LeClair, vocals and cajon, Lyric Boothe, vocals and guitar, and Sharon Taylor, cello. Directed by BJ Robinson, assistant directed by Carlyn Thometz, music directed by Sarah LeClair.
