  • From the gallery: Humans have positioned themselves as de facto rulers of the world, all while choosing to be completely removed from the natural world. This has led to devastating consequences as we have sought to reshape the planet for our comfort. Industrial societies have moved away from a harmonious coexistence with nature and can no long access the ancient, arcane knowledge through which our ancestors sustainably interacted with the earth. Climate Reckoning is an exploration of that lost connectivity with our fragile home and if we aren’t too late, how we might get the chance to salvage it. Participating artists include Amanda Saint Claire, Ann Olsen, Anna Stump, Bridget Rountree, Cindy Zimmerman, Helen Redman, Irene Abraham, Jane E Hindman, Jennifer Spencer, Judith Christensen, Judith Parenio, Kathleen McCord, Kathy Nida, Kim Niehans, Kirsten Aaboe, Linda Litteral, Lisa Hutton, Moya Devine, Nanette Newbry, Nilly Gill, Prudence Horne, Ruth Wallen, Stacie B Greene, Stephanie Bedwell, Susan Osborn, and Terri Hughes-Oelrich. Feminist Image Group (FIG) is a coalition of artists who meet to organize exhibitions, discuss art, see exhibitions, and support one another in their careers. FIG Artists promote an inclusive worldview that allows all voices. As friends, they aid each other in their creative and curatorial endeavors. Opening reception: 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21. • From the organizers: When Remy, a Black man, finds himself not only the owner of his late husband’s drive-in, but also the guardian of his straight, white teenage son, the two forge a relationship around the classic horror movies they regularly screen for the public. However, the grief they harbor over their shared loss threatens to fracture their bond just when they need each other the most. Written by San Diego’s most exciting emerging playwright, this haunting, funny, and loving story about race, sexuality, and family reveals the monsters and saviors we discover in each other. • What happens when the presence of silence allows for the unspoken to be heard? Carol Stein and Lissa Hunter have been fellow artists and friends for nearly 30 years. For the past ten years or so they have shared what they call Studio Days, each going to the other’s Maine-based studio, working in near silence for the day or several days in a row. Being side by side in the same space has become an integral part of each of their practices. Neither knows how her work has been influenced by the other. The arc of each artist’s practice has been continuous and integrated, each new work coming from the previous. There aren’t any seismic shifts or grand leaps that have come directly from time together. But each is certain that her work would be different and, they suspect, not so rich if they had not had these times together, these quiet connections. Opening Reception: Sunday, March 19, 2-5 p.m. Exhibition: March 19-May 7 2633 State Street, Carlsbad Village info@phesgallery.com /760-696-3022 Thursday - Saturday from 2-7 p.m. and by appointment PHES Gallery on Facebook / Instagram
