As in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s classic production of "Nicholas Nickleby," any character can take over the narration at any time. The exciting difference is that no cast member knows in advance who will wind up a street urchin or doting aunt, sailor or jailer, judge or kindly chestnut-seller-who-turns-out-to-be-the-missing-heir-to-a-large-fortune. Inventive, surprising theatre where anything can happen is what does happen in "Dickens UnScripted." It is a show where keen imaginations steeped in Dickens and Christmas work feverishly to create theatre on the spot. The pace is swift, and the performers are pushed to the peak of their abilities as they attempt to juggle character, plot and staging all at once. Mission Valley invites the community to experience “Something Wicked” – a family-friendly celebration of the highly anticipated premiere of “Wicked: For Good!” taking place Friday, November 21, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the AMC Court. Guests can enjoy photo moments with Elphaba and Glinda and a live performance by Trinity Theatre Company, then stop by the Trinity Theatre booth to meet the talented cast and learn about upcoming shows. Music by DJ Sass and whimsical entertainment from the Bubble Pirate will keep the fun going throughout the event. The first 100 guests can create free pink and green slime at Slime Kitchen, with additional themed slime available for purchase. Visitors can stop by the Princess Project booth to support local teens through dress donations and volunteer opportunities, helping provide prom dresses and accessories to those who might not otherwise have them. They can also try their luck at the Plinko board for a chance to win “Wicked”-themed prizes from retailers. It’s a magical evening of creativity, music and community connection. "Comics, Bande Dessinée, Fumetti, and Manga: Comics in Many Forms"—A conversation about comics in their many forms. Vin Deighan (aka Frank Quitely), Laurence Grove (director of the Stirling Maxwell Centre for the Study of Text/Image Cultures at the University of Glasgow and president of the International Bande Dessinée Society), Antonio Ianotta (University of San Diego), and Van Tarpley (San Diego State University) join moderator Elizabeth Pollard (co-director, Center for Comics Studies at SDSU) for a discussion exploring the similarities and differences of English-language comics, French bande dessinée, Italian fumetti, and Japanese manga. A creative strategist and visual storyteller with 25 years of nonprofit leadership, Sarah has guided Outside The Lens from a grassroots organization into a recognized innovator in creative youth development and media literacy, partnering with institutions like The Getty Museum on Voice Out, a regional exhibition that amplifies the perspectives of young artists. Sarah’s leadership philosophy is simple: create conditions for others to thrive. Whether expanding programs like Media Makers—which serves young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities—or securing catalyst funding for Balboa Park's Botanical Building during her tenure at Forever Balboa Park, she leads with curiosity and trust. She’s also the creative mind behind Culture & Cocktails at the San Diego Museum of Art and has presented at Public Lands Alliance and International Placemaking Week conferences. A Minnesota native with degrees in Journalism and Gender & Women's Studies from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Sarah was recently named a 2025 San Diego Magazine Nonprofit Pioneer.
