This class is ongoing and builds upon itself. Students can join at any time, and classes can be taken non-consecutively. Beginners start with the foundation design and learn to hone skills on a soft wood, and returning students will move on to more intricate and challenging designs. Nuristani woodcarving originates from the Nuristan province in Afghanistan and inlay designs each have their own meanings that you will learn more about in the class. Each person will take home their carving designs and the knowledge to practice this new craft as a decorative process on wood and other materials. We supply materials and carving tools, but if you have your own, please bring them. You are very welcome to bring your own tools and material to carve. If you’d like to purchase or bring your own tools, we recommend: • Woodcarver’s Mallet (12 oz or around that weight) • Chisels in size 10mm up to 16mm (3/8″ up to 5/8″).
