  • Join Writers, Ink Executive Director Kristen Fogle and co-founder Judy Reeves for our winter writing retreat at the beautiful and inspirational Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside. Retreat writers will have two choices for this annual retreat: come to the Mission on Friday afternoon for an overnight retreat and writing sessions, then stay for the all-day gathering on Saturday. All retreaters will join for the day-long session in a private room at the Mission for a day of writing and sharing, which will include time spent on the landscaped grounds of the historic Mission. This year’s retreat falls on the Winter Solstice, which we will honor during our sessions. For Overnight Retreaters (CLOSED): the fee includes evening and morning writing sessions, a private room, dinner, and breakfast. Go here for more information about staying overnight at the Mission. This tour highlights their unusual features and provides insight into their uses in their countries of origin and around the globe. Forever Balboa Park offers thematic park tours that focus on the park’s unique biodiversity and highlight the park’s horticultural wonders on the second Saturday of each month. Led by park volunteer and horticultural enthusiast Bill Edwards, the free tours leave from the Visitors Center at 10 a.m. unless otherwise indicated. Walks last 90 minutes and are typically less than 1 mile on level terrain. It is advised that potential attendees contact the Balboa Park Visitors Center prior to the scheduled walk to determine if there are any last-minute changes or cancellations to the tours.
